Rebecca's art practice uses photography and writing to satisfy an insatiable curiosity about the complex past and the duplicitous present. Her research-based methodology uses found words and memoir in conversation with imagery. In this practice, the visual narrative has been subjected to various degrees of concealment, acknowledging the divisive nature of contemporary themes and the sensitivity of society and the art world.
Rebecca began her arts education with a first class honours degree in Art History from La Trobe University in Melbourne with minor studies in archaeology and anthropology. She was awarded the Peter Reynold's Honours Prize for outstanding academic achievement and went on to undertake further post-graduate studies in Europe, in the fields of bestiaries and drawings of animals. After initially learning photography from her mother, Rebecca also undertook formal studies in photography at Photography Studies College (PSC) in Melbourne and London College of Printing. She commenced a life-long relationship with Gold Street Studios in Trentham where she has continued to develop skills in analogue and alternative process photography.
Today, Rebecca works from her studio and darkroom in regional Victoria where she lives with her husband and teenage daughters. She has recently completed a Master of Arts - Photography at PSC, a renowned program that has helped her to construct a comprehensive creative framework with which to undertake meaningful published and exhibited projects.
